Volunteers primarily work as Crisis Hotline Counselors and must commit to a minimum of two shifts per month. All volunteers are trained to help callers with immediate problems and then link them to the long-term resources they need to cope and overcome.
As a volunteer you will receive training that includes classroom time, interactive role play, and direct observation and mentoring in the Call Center. The Memphis Crisis Center also provides ongoing training opportunities for current volunteers, covering a wide range of relevant topics to enhance skills and knowledge. Training sessions are flexible and organized so that you can enter in multiple points within the training process.
